About the forum:
From the HIV virus, to food poisonings, to the swine flu, health professionals always have a war to fight. But, the battle should not be fought by public health professionals alone. Susan R. Guarnieri, MD, MPH, will discuss public health scares through the years, the challenges of the public health specialty, and the growing need for partnership between public health and clinical medicine.

About our presenter:
Susan R. Guarnieri, MD, MPH, is a 1966 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and is known for her work in public health, preventive medicine and occupational health. As the former Baltimore City Health Commissioner, she has received numerous awards from the Maryland Legislature and Governor for her work with mental health, child health, TB, and AIDS clinics.
 
After her work as health commissioner, Dr. Guarnieri served as the medical director of the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and Constellation Energy Group (CEG) for 18 years. While at CEG, her clinics received the Corporate Health Achievement Award for Exemplary Employee Health and Occupational and Environmental Medicine Practices from the American College of Occupation and Environmental Medicine. 
 
Dr. Guarnieri served on the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health Advisory Council, and was a Senior Associate in the School of Public health Department of Environmental Health Sciences.  She is a Lifetime Member of Delta Omega and the Honorary Public Health Society. Currently, she serves on the Board of Maryland General Hospital and Health System and Advisory Council at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.  Her most recent assignment is on the Ohio State University Medical Alumni Society Board of Governors.
