Benefits
Vacation and Travel Time-Off Policies:
The Ohio State University Medical Center
provides residents with a minimum of two weeks of paid
vacation per year. Our department, however, provides 3 weeks of vacation plus one week at Christmas/New Years. The program tries to maintain
flexibility to the policies while also meeting responsibilities. We advise residents to plan as
far in advance as possible. Generally, requests
are met on a first come first serve basis, with leave
for oral presentations at meetings taking precedence.
Residents must submit their vacation requests at least
3 weeks (15 working days) prior to the start of the vacation.
Generally, requests for one entire week are preferred. The maximum number of vacation days that a resident can take from one rotation period (4 weeks) is one week or 5 weekdays. No more than 5 vacation days can be transferred into the next calendar year once during the residency.
Residents are allowed one week of meeting attendance time per year. Exception will be given for oral or poster presentation at a meeting. Third and fourth year residents may use the one week either for meetings or locums. Proof of enrollment must be submitted with the request. For oral presentations, the resident must submit an abstract acceptance form and the days that he or she will present. Third year residents are given 5 days for fellowship interviews.
Only one week of meeting attendance time is reimbursed in the amount of $500.00 for either the first or second year of the residency. Scientific oral presentations will be reimbursed up to $1,000.00 per meeting. Poster presentations will be reimbursed up to $500.00 per meeting.
