The Medical Student Alumni Council started in 2000, with a meeting of three medical students 
(Froylan Gonzalez; Paul Krummen, and Leah Brown), Dr. Mark Notestine, Executive Director of Medical Alumni Affairs, and Ms. Sally Ann Hurst, Alumni Coordinator. The focus of the meeting was to discuss ways to enhance the relationship between the medical students and Medical Alumni Society.
Several excellent suggestions were made at this meeting and a new council was organized to maintain the link between the Medical Alumni Society and the current medical students. As chairperson of the new council, Leah wrote the Constitution and By-laws for The Medical Student Alumni Council.
In February 2001, the first “official” meeting of the council was held in Meiling Hall and 35 students attended. Since that time, the Medical Student Alumni Council has continued to flourish in the College. The group traditionally meets 2 times/year and sponsors such events as the Medical Student/Alumni Golf Scramble in the spring, the Maurice “Mo” Mullet Medical Student Alumni Forum (fall and spring), and Girls Night Out (spring).
