James Falko, MD '71
James Falko, MD, is a Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinolgy, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Colorado in Denver. He has also headed a number of academic council societies including being Chairman of the American Federation for Clinical Research of the Midwest. He is a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, American College of Cardiology, an American College of Physicians, and National Lipid Association. A few of his recent recognitions include the Lifetime Distinguished Service Award by the Central Ohio Diabetes Association in 2001 and the Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians in 2003. Dr. Falko has written over 100 articles, including original research and scientific reviews, on lipid disorders, diabetes, and related disorders for peer-reviewed journals.
Linda Stone, MD '79
Linda Stone, MD, currently serves as Special Assistant to the Dean for Humanism and Professionalism at Ohio State’s College of Medicine and recently retired from the Associate Dean for Student Affairs position in the College. Prior to her OSU appointment, Dr. Stone practiced family medicine for 25 years. She is past president of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and past chair of the OAFP Foundation. In addition, she is one of the founders of the Elizabeth Blackwell Center for Women’s Health at Riverside Hospital and has served as a Vice President at Ohio Health and as Executive Vice President of the Medical Group of Ohio. Dr. Stone was instrumental in the development of “Tutornet”, a virtual tutoring community at OSU for faculty and medical students. She was honored by students in 2004 as Professor of the Year. In 2010 she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from her undergraduate alma mater, Michigan State University and was just recently awarded the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians 2011 Distinguished Service Award. Linda is the current president of the OSU Medical Alumni Society.
ALUMNI SERVICE AWARD
Susan Hubbell, MD '76
Susan Hubbell, MD, is a practicing physiatrist in Lima, Ohio and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ohio State. She has been very active in advancing the College of Medicine through her 20 plus yeas of service to the Medical Alumni Society. As president of the organization from 2004 through 2006, she instituted a grant program to allow medical students to pursue educational opportunities outside of the classroom. A member of OSU’s Board of Trustees at the Lima Regional Campus, Susan has been able to continue to give back to the community and OSU. In 2006 she was the first honoree in the Ohio State Lima Hall of Fame. She has served as a delegate to the AMA and as president of the Academy of Medicine of Lima and Alan County. In 2009, Susan was awarded the Ralph Davenport Mershon Award from the OSU Alumni Association for her service to Ohio State. .
EARLY CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Craig Hofmeister, MD '99
Craig Hofmeister, MD, is Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology at Ohio State. He is co-director of the OSU multiple myeloma clinical program, serves on the scientific advisory board of Multiple Myeloma Opportunities for Research & Education (MMORE) and is a member on the project review committee of the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC). Dr. Hofmeister has excelled himself as a cancer advocate, educator and researcher in advancing our knowledge of multiple myeloma at the local and national levels, and in leading clinical trials. Within three years of joining the faculty, he has helped build a clinical and translational research program that focuses on treatments, on improving quality of life, and ultimately on curing patients with multiple myeloma. Under his leadership, the Multiple Myeloma Program has attained national prominence supported by federal and foundation grants.
