A record number of alumni returned to campus September 11-13 for the 56th Annual Medical Alumni Reunion.  Guests were treated to tours of the OSU Medical Center, Continuing Medical Education programs, an All-Class dinner at the Hyatt on Capitol Square, presentations from students and faculty about their ongoing research and a tailgate prior to the OSU/USC football game.

At the All-Class Dinner, the Medical Alumni Society honored four distinguished award recipients.  Mary McIlroy, MD ’75, Kendall Smith, MD ’68 and Erwin Thal, MD ’62 received the Alumni Achievement Award while Ruth Brown, MD ’69 earned the first-ever Alumni Service Award.  You can read more about each recipient by clicking here.  A record 280 guests were in attendance at the Hyatt on Capitol Square dinner.  The Hyatt on Capitol Square served as the host hotel for the weekend.

On Saturday, alumni heard from College of Medicine students and faculty about exciting research initiatives.  Doug Danforth, MD described how students can use virtual patients in a simulator called “Second Life.”  David Bahner, MD presented an overview of the current offerings of ultrasound in the medical student curricula.  Hillary Bashaw, a Med 3, demonstrated how students are using the iPod Touch to improve patient care.  Matthew Imm, Med 3, and Andy Wagner, PGY3, spoke about OSU’s global health initiatives.

To top off the day, over 300 alumni and friends gathered outside of Meiling Hall from 5-7 p.m. for a pregame tailgate prior to the OSU/USC game.
