Director’s Welcome
We live in an extraordinary time of opportunity for biomedical research – with new discoveries revealed on a daily basis. Fueled by the sequencing of the human genome, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entirely new fields of inquiry, novel medical knowledge emerges at an astounding pace. And yet, to bring this knowledge to bear on improving health care for all remains a daunting challenge.
At The Ohio State University, scientists contribute substantively to frontiers in basic biomedical research. More importantly, Ohio State is at the forefront of translating basic science into clinical applications. Diverse disciplines – from genomics and molecular biology, medical informatics, computer sciences, and bioengineering, to clinical trial research - must come together to solve our main health care problems. Integration of these disciplines is the hallmark of research scientists pursue at the OSU Medical Center.
The School of Biomedical Science provides the nexus between research, education, and clinical application. Its departments and affiliated centers and institutes continually make major advances against diseases for which treatment remained unimaginable even a few years ago.
The following pages will give you a closer look at the fascinating research being conducted and the educational opportunities that exist at the OSU School of Biomedical Science.
