Small Classes, Intimate Learning Environments
Each year a new class of approximately 20-25 students begin the Biomedical Science major.  From their first day of classes at OSU, these students take a mixture of classes that are only for students in this program and other classes that can be taken by any member of the student body.  Every quarter the Biomedical Science students will take at least one class with just their Biomedical Science classmates.  Biomedical Science courses are taught by the same faculty who teach our medical and research students.

Research Experiences
Undergraduate students at OSU have always had the opportunity to pursue research opporutunities, but the biomedical science major is the first time a major has incorporated the biomedical research experience into its regular curriculum.  During your Freshman and Sophomore years, you will take seminar courses exposing you to the major research projects going on at the OSU Medical Center by the very people conducting the research.  This will allow you the chance to not only learn what research topic you might like to pursue in their Junior year, but also which researcher you feel would best serve as your mentor.  You then spend your Junior year engaging in a research project that may be extened into the summers and the senior year if that is desired.  Additionally, some students begin working in a lab as early as their Freshman year.

Preparation for a Variety of Graduate and Professional Programs
The Biomedical Science major is just the starting point to your academic career.  This major is designed to provide a strong undergraduate preparation for those students who want to pursue further education in medicine and/or research.   You will have time to complete the prerequisites for just about any professional program at Ohio State, including Optometry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Physical Therapy and Medicine.

Individualized Attention
In addition to the opportunity to meet and know professors and researchers in our small class sizes, you will also have the opportunity to interact with support staff throughout campus.  You will have the same academic counselor thoughout your years at OSU, and this counselor works exclusively with the Biomedical Science program.  When you are beginning to prepare for your graduate school interviews, we will be available to conduct mock interviews.  Throughout your four undergraduate years at OSU, you will tap into the rich resources Ohio State has to offer.
