What will freshman year be like?
Ohio State is on a quarters system. There are four quarters a year (Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring), and each quarter is 10 weeks long followed by a week of final exams.
Biomedical Science students should have three goals for their freshman year: 1) Learn how to study effectively and efficiently, 2) Earn good grades (3.5 GPA or higher), and 3) Develop a strong social and support network at OSU.
During Autumn Quarter, you take Calculus, General Chemistry, Freshman Engllish (writing), and a Freshman Survey class. The Survey class is taught by your academic counselor, and you take it with just your biomedical science classmates.
During Winter Quarter, you take the 2nd part of the Chemistry series, you begin Biology, and you finish Calculus. Additionally, you take a class on how to read Biomedical Literature.
During Spring Quarter, you finish both your Chemistry and Biology series. You continue to learn about reading biomedical literature, and you also take a Statistics course.
If you participated in post-secondary enrollment while in high school, or will be receiving credit from AP classes, this schedule may be adjusted to fit your needs.
See the scheduling plan for a tentative four year plan of coursework.
