Carol Hasbrouck, Director of The Center and Assistant Dean of Clinical Skills and Medical Education

Carol Hasbrouck accepted the position of Assistant Dean and Director of Clinical Skills Education and Assessment in April, 2004. She is no stranger to medical education. She began her career in medical education at Ohio State in the Division of Research and Evaluation in Medical Education. During her tenure there, she worked with undergraduate medical education primarily in the areas of testing and measurement and curriculum development. In 1994, she went to Riverside Methodist Hospital to take the position of Assistant Director of Medical Education. At Riverside, she had the opportunity to work in the area of residency education, as well as student education. She returned to Ohio State in 2001 to become the Director of Graduate Medical Education and remained in that position until taking on the task of heading up the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center. Carol is married and has two daughters.  She received her bachelor's degree from Miami Univeristy and her Master's degree from Ohio State.  She has served on the Worthington School Board for eleven years.  She and her family are passionate sports fans, and follow the Buckeyes closely. 

Dan Clinchot, M.D., Medical Director of the Center and Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Outreach

Dr. Clinchot utilizes his extensive medical education experience to develop the educational and assessment programs at the core of the Center’s mission. This includes the development and implementation a Standardized Patient Program; conceptualizing and facilitating a competency assessment process; designing and implementing education studies/research; and presenting and publishing Center activities and accomplishments. Since joining the OSU faculty in 1992, Dr. Clinchot has served as residency program director for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (assistant 1998-2001 and director 7/01-present) and was named Teacher of the Year by the department residents four times – in 1993, 1995, 1999 and 2002.

Stacy Baker, Clinical Skills Center Program Coordinator

Stacy comes to the Clinical Skills Center as a 2005 graduate from The Ohio State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.  While getting her masters from Ohio State in Allied Medicine Management, Stacy worked as a Medical Technologist in OSU's Critical Care Lab for two years.  During her masters work, Stacy's research was on assessing patients' satisfaction with their laboratory results.  As the Center's Program Coordinator, Stacy coordinates and manages the Interdisciplinary Clinical Skills Curriculum Program for second and fourth year medical students; she participates in program development, implementation and on-going maintenance and assessment; and Stacy participates in developing instructional programs and materials, including identification and evaluation of materials.  Stacy works closely with the Program Director for the Clinical Skills Curriculum and the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center staff. 


Janie Boyer,  Standardized Patient Program Manager

Janie’s primary focus is development and promotion of the Standardized Patient Program, including recruitment and training of a widely diverse group of individuals. She works closely with physicians from a variety of programs to create, organize and implement education and/or assessment activities for health care learners. Janie oversees and manages all Standardized Patient events in the Center, including OSCE (Objective Structure Clinical Examinations) Janie maintains and manages statistical and budgetary data for all Standardized Patient activities.   Janie came to OSU in 2003 from Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, where her responsibilities included implementation of the Department of Surgery’s education program for medical students. She also had the opportunity to participate in institutional and national research projects and publications related to surgical education. 

Sara Calvey, Program Manager

Sara came to Ohio State as a 2003 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where she received degrees in Journalism and Psychology.  Sara joined the University with working experience in public relations as an internist for Kathryn Paugh at KRP Communications and as a Community Coordinator for ARP Communication.  As Program Manager for the Center, Sara manages and oversees all activities and operations of the Clinical Skills Center; she works with Department Chairs and Program and Residency Directors to organize student and resident use of the Center.  She serves as the primary contact for inquiries and information, including all tours and visits from national and international guests to OSU.  Sara helps to manage the Procedures Lab and logisitics of all procedural sessions for the medical students' and Residents' curricula.  Sara collects, analyzes and interprets statistical data for various projects in the Center and participates in the planning and development of the annual budget.  She develops and oversees marketing of the Center and creates publicity materials. 

John Hill, Clinical Skills Program Coordinator 

John manages the interdisciplinary Clinical Skills Curriculum program for medical students in years two through four, facilitating the tracking of information and data in the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center.  He also coordinates the efforts of the Standardized Patient Program, focusing on the USMLE Step 2 CS practice exam and the financial aspects of the program.  He facilitates the organization and administration of student assessments and exams.  The Clinical Skills curriculum and the Clinical Skills Center are instrumental in addressing the teaching and assessment of a continuum of clinical skills that are required for students to obtain prior to graduation.  John develops, implements, and continuously maintains and assesses all components of the Clinical Skills Curriculum.  He is responsible for assisting in the development of instructional programs, materials, and examinations, including identification and evaluation of materials; working with faculty and the Program Director on planning; and implementing individual programs and sessions as needed.  John works with computer web sites and databases to coordinate, deliver and manage curriculum and to provide students and faculty with assessment and exam information.  He recruits faculty and works closely with Program Directors in the Office of Medical Education, the Program Director for the Clinical Skills Curriculum, the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment staff and with faculty from various disciplines. 

Franco Piscitani, Procedures Laboratory Manager

Franco comes to the Clinical Skills Center as the most recent addition to the team.  He worked as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic for the 911 service in the city of Youngstown and its surrounding suburbs.  Franco brings with him experience as a paramedic instructor for the Columbus Division of Fire.  He is a representative for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and a graduate of Youngstown State University.  Franco's degrees are in Allied Health and Psychology, and he is a published freelance writer and reviewer for emergency medicine textbooks.  Franco manages the daily operations of the Procedures Lab in the Center and all activities involved with the simulators and procedural equipment.  He has been thoroughly trained on the Human Patient Simulator (HPS) and operates the mannequin for all medical student and resident educational sessions, in addition to contributing to the development of curriculum involving the HPS.  Franco provides procedural practice sessions for trainees and assists with teaching activities.  A large part of his work involves the integration of skills and procedures into existing and future curricular programs, and Franco implements new skills and procedures training opportunities for future health care providers.
