Simulators available in the
Procedures Laboratory
of the Clinical Skills Education & Assessment Center

  1. Human Patient Simulator - Normal and difficult airway; pulmonary system; cardiovascular system; genitourinary system.  ACLS:  airway management and ventilation, chest compression, cardiac arrhythmia and electrical therapy.  Monitor interface allows constant feedback on heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, O2 saturation, respiratory rate, pulmonary artery pressure and arterial pressure.  TRAUMA FEATURES:  reactive eyes, pericardiocentesis, needle decompression of tension pneumothorax and chest tube placement and management.  Pharmacology and drug recognition systems. Disaster Medical Readiness module.
  2. Emergency Care Simulator (portable emergency/trauma version of the Human Patient Simulator) - Normal and difficult airway; pulmonary system; cardiovascular system; genitourinary system.  ACLS: airway management and ventilation, chest compression, cardiac arrhythmias and electrical therapy.  Monitor interface allows constant feedback on heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, O2 saturation, respiratory rate, pulmonary artery pressure and arterial pressure.  TRAUMA FEATURES:  needle decompression of tension pneumothorax, chest tube placement and management.  Disaster Medical Readiness module.
  3. TraumaMan - An anitomical human body form for practicing trauma procedures such as chest tube insertion, cricothyroidotomy, pericardiocentesis, peritoneal lavage and intervenous cutdown.
  4. Advanced Life Support (ALS) Trainers - Mannequin with computer interface that allows management of pre-determined or “on-the-fly” critical cardiac/respiratory scenarios.  Model allows manual or pad defibrillation, intubation, assessment of carotid pulse, peripheral lines and chest compressions.  The Heart Simulator can be used as a separate computer/monitor interface for cardiac rhythm recognition and training.
  5. Laparoscopic virtual simulator - Laparoscopic surgery virtual reality simulator which allows trainees to get the feel of using the laparoscopic camera within the abdomen.
  6. Endoscopic virtual simulator - Virtual reality simulator that allows trainees to virtually perform an EGD (upper endoscopy), flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy (lower endoscopy) and bronchoscopy.
  7. Injection/IV - Used to simulate intramuscular (IM)/subcutaneous injections and intravenous (IV) infusions.
  8. Blood Pressure - Designed to familiarize the learner with blood pressure sounds and to allow practice in the detection of both the systolic and diastolic pressures.
  9. Multi-Venous upper limb access - Adult venipuncture through multiple sites; dorsal veins of the hand and the cephalic, cedian, basilica and antecubital veins.
  10. Joint injection models - For practicing soft tissue joint injection used for treatment of injuries and arthritis.  Palpation techniques and correct placement.
  11. Femoral access model - Training the learner in the practice of accessing the femoral artery and vein.
  12. Central line catheterization - Venous catheterization can be practiced at all common sites of the upper torso; subclavical, jugular and basalic veins.
  13. ABG Trainer - Realistic arm with pulse and simulated blood used for training correct placement of needle and how to use the ABG kit correctly.
  14. Lumbar spinal tap - Facilitates instruction of the steps involved in the performance of a spinal tap.  Basic landmarks facilitate access to spinal fluid.
  15. Pelvic exam model - Simulator combines the ability to demonstrate multiple gynecologic procedures.
  16. Male rectal/prostate model - Duplicates a male lower torso with various prostate glands to simulate the feel of either a benign gland or various stages of more advanced stages of carcinoma.  The model can be used to facilitate instruction of rectal exam techniques.
  17. Male foley catheterization - Simulates urethral-bladder catheterization.  This model can be used to instruct on the performance of straight or foley cather insertion.
  18. Interchangeable male/female catheterization model - Simulates urethral-bladder catheterization.  This model can be used to instruct on the performance of straight or foley cather insertion, with fluid return.
  19. Breast Exam Trainer - Used to demonstrate appropriate technique for a breast exam.  Separate breast models allow the learner to detect, through palpation, lumps/ abnormalities that may indicate breast cancer.
  20. Auscultation torso - Six heart sites and five lung sound sites on the anterior surface with ten lung sound locations on the posterior and two midaxillary sites.  12 different simulated heart conditions and 16 different lung conditions available.  Stethoscope is designed so that the trainer and learner can listen simultaneously.
  21. CPR Torso - 8 airway management skills; central venous access; tension pneumothorax decompression; chest compressions; abdominal thrusts; stomach auscultation.
  22. Chester chest - Treatment of long-term Vascular Access Routes.
  23. Ear Sim -  Practice examination of the human ear.  Simulates external and internal physical appearance and dimensions.  Ten interchangeable ears can be used to demonstrate different findings on otoscopic examination.
