Dick Burry, PHD

Dick Burry received a Ph.D. in 1976 from the Department of Anatomy, University of Colorado Medical School in developmental neuroscience. Several of his publications have introduced new methods of electron microscopic autoradiography and immunocytochemistry. You can read more about Dr. Burry's work at his Neuroscience faculty page.

During his 20+ years as Director of the facility, he has been involved in adding new instruments to the CMIF. Today, the CMIF includes light, confocal and electron microscopes.

Kathy Wolken, BA

Kathy Wolken earned her BA in Zoology and is a certified technologist through the Microscopy Society of America. She has been with the CMIF since 1983 and has an extensive background in biological specimen pereparation for TEM and SEM. Kathy has expertise in immunocytochemistry, negative staining, cryo-ultramicrotomy, confocal microscopy, and thin sectioning of polymer samples. Kathy has expertise in the use of our new digital TEM, the FEI Tecnai Spirit. She also has extensive experience in teaching students and faculty to use the equipment in the CMIF.

Brian Kemmenoe, Bsc

Brian Kemmenoe has been with the CMIF since 1997. He has a Bsc in Applied Biology and is experienced in both electron and light microscopy. He has expertise in fluorescence microscopy using both wide-field and confocal microscopes. Brian has a strong research background in the preparation of biological specimens for SEM and TEM. Brian is currently being trained in the use of our new digital high-resolution SEM, the FEI NOVA nanoSEM 400.
He enjoys working with students and staff to help them achieve their research goals using the CMIF microscopes.
