The CMIF has capabilities for producing light level microscopic digital images. The following sample images were produced using a color digital camera hooked up to our routine microscope. Click on the pictures to see larger versions.

The CMIF's primary light microscope is a Zeiss Axioskop with brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, and fluorescence capabilities. Standard digital images are generated with an Olympus Magnafire low light color digital camera. This camera has long exposure time capability, allowing the collection of extremely dim images such as those in fluorescence microscopy.
The Axioskop, shown above, is outfitted with the following objectives.

The fluorescence filter magazine currently contains filter sets for:

The capability of spectral-imaging with white-light or fluorescence is provided using the Nuance Multispectral camera which may attached to the Zeiss Axioskop Wide-field microscope, or the Zeiss 510 META confocal.
The Nuance camera provides a multispectral imaging system using a liquid crystal tuning element that performs like a high-quality interference filter,but enables the transmitted light to be electronically tunable. This allows rapid, vibrationless selection of wavelengths in the 420 - 720 nm range.
digital images are captured at each wavelength. The Nuance software performs spectral classification and unmixing of overlapping dyes with differing spectral signatures that enable them to be spectrally separated.
