




June 5, 2008, Don Batisky, MD, served as grand marshal and led the way into the auditorium, holding the college banner while trumpet fanfares and brass renaissance music played. Drs. Dan Clinchot, Mary McIlroy, and Judy Westman were the college faculty marshals. Student marshals were Andrea Hoopes, Michael Powers, and Cedric Pritchett.
This year’s ceremony was dedicated to Brian Shaffer, who disappeared on March 31, 2006. Brian would have been graduating with his Class of 2008 peers.
Doug Knutson, MD, associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, received the Professor of the Year Award.
Awards presented:
Dean’s Award: Sarah Grim Hostetler – This award recognizes service for the advancement of the class, portrayal of an outstanding professional image of medicine to the public, and demonstration of exemplary achievement as a citizen, scholar, and physician.
Academic Excellence Award: Jennifer Marie Bogucki – in recognition of exemplary representation of excellence, high ideals, and moral character.
Watman Achievement Award: Benjamin Anthony Bogucki – in recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement, research ability, clinical accomplishments, and student leadership.
William J. Means Memorial Award: Seth Evan Karol – for demonstrated outstanding scholarship and professional attributes.
Clinical Excellence Award: Meredith Suzanne Collins – for outstanding achievements in all aspects of medical training.
Leadership Award: Bethany Meredith Gaskill – for outstanding leadership contributions to fellow classmates and the college.
Achievement Award: Joseph Anthony Simonetti – for contributions of time and talent that have helped enrich the college and its traditions.
Service Award: Eniolami Dosunmu – for outstanding service contributions to fellow classmates and to the college.
Medical Scientist Award: Michael Brian Becknell, PhD, and Bradley W. Blaser, PhD – for outstanding academic achievements in both medical school and graduate work for the combined MD/PhD degrees.
