Ching-Shih Chen, PhD, Professor of
Internal Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Lucius A. Wing Chair of Cancer
Research and Therapy, was granted the 2010 Ohio State Distinguished
Scholar Award. Dr. Chen is an internationally respected researcher in
the field of creating therapeutic agents for cancer. His research has
led to recent licensing of two new anti-cancer drugs. He is the
recipient of 13 national and international honors, holds seven patents,
and has published over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles. The
Distinguished Scholar Award was established in 1978. It recognizes
scholarly accomplishments by senior professors who have compiled a
substantial body of research. The awardees receive a $3000 honorarium
and a $20,000 research grant to be used over three years.
Quinn Capers IV, MD, Assistant
Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine and the Associate Dean for
Admissions, has been awarded the Ohio State Distinguished Diversity
Enhancement Award in recognition of his commitment to enhancing
diversity at Ohio State and for exceeding expectations in implementing
the Diversity Action Plan.
Richard Fertel, PhD, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Katalin Koranyi, MD, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, received the 2010 OSU Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. The
award recognizes faculty for superior teaching. Recipients are
nominated by present and former students and colleagues. They receive a
$3000 award and are inducted into the University's Academy of Teaching,
which provides leadership for the improvement of teaching.
