Ernest Mazzaferri, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine, was appointed Associate Medical Director of the Ross Heart Hospital. He will assist Charles A. Bush, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine, in the oversight of all clinical services at the hospital, including quality of care, resource allocation, and the training of medical students and graduates.

Amanda Toland, PhD,
Assistant Professor of Molecular Virology, Immunology and Medical Genetics, is the Principal Investigator of a new $1.25M National Cancer Institute grant
to study how genetic interactions affect risk for colorectal cancer. The study will look at two genes that have have been associated with an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer in mouse models.

Eric Kraut, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine, has been chosen as the 2010 recipient of the Earl N. Metz Distinguished Physician Award. The award, presented by the Department of Internal Medicine's chair and faculty, acknowledges the lineage of distinguished clinicians and master teachers in the Department of Internal Medicine.

Steven Dean, DO
, Associate Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine, has been named a "Preceptor All-Star" by the College of Medicine. Preceptors serve as extensions of the medical school faculty by inviting medical students to work with them in their private practices and gain experience from supervised patient contact.
