Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, has accepted the position of Chief Safety and Quality Officer for University Hospitals. In this role, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce will oversee Medical Center quality improvement initiatives and data, such as clinical outcomes, process efficiency, patient safety, resource utilization and financial performance, and customer satisfaction. Dr. Moffatt-Bruce has served as associate medical director for the past two years.   

Donald, LeMay, DO, Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, has been selected as Team Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association. This award is given annually to physicians nominated by athletic trainers in recognition of their work with student athletes and support of the profession of athletic training.

Joanne Lynn, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology and Associate Dean of Student Life, was chosen as the faculty honoree by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for this year's Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. This annual award is presented to the faculty member who best demonstrates the ideals of compassion in the delivery of care; respect for patients and colleagues; and clinical excellence. 

Bryan Martin, MD, Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine, has been selected as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Designated Institutional Official. He will also hold the title of Associate Medical Director for Graduate Medical Education within University Hospital. Dr. Martin is a nationally recognized expert in Graduate Medical Education. Since joining the faculty in 2008, he has served as the Program Director for the newly developed Allergy and Immunology Fellowship as well as Section Chief for Allergy and Immunology within Internal Medicine. 

Miguel Villalona-Calero, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine, has been named the first Director of the newly created Division of Medical Oncology within the Department of Internal Medicine. Medical Oncology was previously part of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Dr. Villalona is an internationally renowned expert in experimental therapeutics and lung cancer. He also directs Ohio State's solid tumors experimental therapeutics program.

Stephen Kolb, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neurology has received an RC2 ARRA grant in collaboration with Arthur Burghes, PhD, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, and Brian Kaspar, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. Funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the grant is known as a "GO Grant" standing for Grand Opportunity, which funds research that has the potential to lay the foundation for new fields of investigation. The two-year grant is to develop therapies for two major motor neuron diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and spinal muscular atrophy.
