On May 19th OSUMC hosted Global Health Day, a day to raise awareness on global health issues, including poverty and health, women's health and HIV/AIDS. On this same day, OSUMC also welcomed the Ride for World Health 2008 riders into Columbus, along their route from San Diego to Washington DC. Ride for World Health is a non-profit organization founded in November 2004 by a small group of OSU medical students with a shared interest in global health issues. The organization completed its first cross country cycling and education program in the spring of 2006. This is the third annual cross-country ride. Each year, the Ride for World Health donates money to a non-profit organization working in global health. This year, the beneficiary is the well-known organization Doctors Without Borders.
Included in the Global Health Day events were an arrival ceremony for the riders, several national speakers delivering lectures on current issues in international health, a community fair, lunch and opportunities to donate to the Ride for World Health organization.
