The Medical Center admits more than 44,000 patients annually and experiences some 635,000 outpatient visits and surgeries per year, including more than 75,000 emergency department visits. The range of primary and tertiary care facilities, together with a large and diverse patient population, provide you with extensive patient care exposure.

The Medical Center housed one of the first coronary care units in the nation. Ohio State is recognized for its pioneering efforts in the early detection and treatment of cervical cancer, the care of women with high-risk pregnancies, the discovery of hairy cell leukemia, and the development of radioimmuno-guided surgery for cancer. In addition, one of the country's largest and most technologically advanced solid organ transplant programs is found at Ohio State.
This spirit of innovation continues to accelerate. When it opens in 2004, the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital will place Ohio State among a small group of academic medical centers that have melded cardiovascular research with clinical care to form freestanding heart care programs.
And if you need a break amidst your rotations at the Medical Center, you can unwind in the beautiful House Staff Call Suites. The $2 million, 17,000 square foot facility features 40 sleep rooms, a spacious lounge, computer center, vending area, and classroom.
