Merit-Based:
How do I know if I qualify for merit-based scholarships?

Incoming students will be notified by letter and a phone call. These decisions are made starting in December and lasting throughout the beginning of the summer.

How do I know I qualify for the Outstanding Academic Merit Scholarship?
This scholarship rewards those students who are in the top 25% of their respective medical school class. In the summer (July-August) returning students will be notified via email that they have received this scholarship. Since this is after the financial aid award letters, students receiving this scholarship will receive a revised award letter.

Is there an application for the Outstanding Academic Merit Scholarship or do I automatically receive it?
Students will automatically receive this scholarship if they meet the eligibility criteria. No application is required for this scholarship.

Need-Based:

What is the annual income thresholds for eligibility?
Each year the eligibility requirements for need based scholarships depend on the amount of funding available to award as well as the socio-economic status of all students applying. Therefore, our office can not give a cut-off income amount that would disqualify a student.

Is there a student age exemption for adding parent information on FAFSA?
There is no age exemption for the requirement of parent information on the fafsa. Any student who wants to be considered for financial need scholarships needs to include parent information on the FAFSA.

Military:

If I am expecting a full-tuition military scholarship, is there anything I need to do to accept?
All that is needed if for you complete all the necessary paperwork with the military for acceptance of the scholarship. The military will then contact our office informing us that they wish to make payment to your account each quarter. The military will then submit payment each quarter paying your tuition and fees. We encourage all military students to register the classes each quarter as earlier as possible so that the military can begin their process of making payment.

Do I qualify for an Outstanding Academic Merit Scholarship if I have a military scholarship?
All students are considered for returning student scholarships.

How will my scholarship money be distributed?
Scholarship funding will be distributed evenly over your quarters of enrollment for the academic school year.

What do I need to do to receive more merit-based and leadership scholarships next year?
It is very possible for a student to accuire additional merit based funding if they continue to keep a high academic status. Students who are also involved and improving the college of medicine and those associated with the college, will increase their chances for leadership and other scholarship opportunities.

If I enroll as a half-time instead of full-time, does that affect my College of Medicine scholarships?
Not at all. You will continue to be considered for scholarship possibilities.

Do I need to accept a scholarship or is it automatically applied to my account?
Incoming students need to notify the admission office that they will be accepting their scholarships. Returning students who receive an endowed scholarship might need to write a thank you letter to accept the award. No additional paperwork is needed for the scholarship to pay to the student's account.

Are there any scholarships for those who are completing a year of research?
The Roessler scholarship program has in the past awarded one scholarship to a student to complete a year long research project.

Am I eligible to apply for University scholarships?
All students are eligibility to apply for University scholarships. However, students who do not meet any of the eligibility requirements for the various scholarships listed on this application do not need to complete it.

How do external scholarships affect my financial aid?
Students are only permitted to receive scholarships and loans up to their cost of attendance. If an external scholarship causes a student to exceed this threshold, our office will be required to reduce loans in the following matter:
1. Grad PLUS or Private Bank loan
2. Unsubsidized Stafford loan
3 Subsidized Stafford loan
