Curriculum > Clinical Training
Ohio State has a strong reputation for rigorous clinical training programs and breadth of educational settings. As a medical student, you are integrated into this setting starting in your first year of medical school.
You may choose to do your Community Project at a retirement community, free clinic, homeless shelter, the Alzheimer's Association, the OSU High Risk Perinatal Teen Program, or the Columbus Health Department.
Your Ambulatory Clinical Clerkship may show you how family medicine is practiced in rural Southeastern Ohio, or how an internal medicine specialist coordinates care among the growing Latino and Somali populations of Columbus. During your clinical rotations, you will train with world-renowned specialists and researchers in areas like cancer genetics, robotic surgery and neo-natology.
A common thread through all of your experiences will be the physician educators – in Columbus and around Ohio – who mentor, support and prepare you. In order to evaluate and confirm your clinical progress, the Clinical Skills facility is used year-round by medical students and measures your ability to gather information, perform physical examinations, and effectively communicate with patients.
