ANNOUNCING -- The SAGE Series (Series In Applied Gerontology Education) Begins Every Spring Quarter. All Interested Students Should Follow the SAGE Link Below To Learn More About The Program And Registration.

NEW UNDERGRADUATE AGING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY - The School of Allied Medical Professions is offering a new geriatrics and gerontology specialty area in the undergraduate health sciences degree program.  This major allows undergraduates to be trained to work with older adults in a variety of health and social settings.  To learn more go to the School of Allied Medical Professions web site.

Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Aging  - The Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Aging is a University-wide program that provides current OSU graduate and professional students the opportunity to expand their knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet the needs of our nation’s growing older adult population.   Students must apply to enroll in the program and must satisfactorily complete at least 21 hours of graduate course work, as outlined in the Master List of Courses.

SAGE Program (Series in Applied Gerontology Education) - SAGE is a three-course distance learning program which provides continuing education and training in the field of aging.  Throughout the series of internet-based courses, special attention is devoted to issues of social, cultural, and ethnic diversity.  All students successfully completing SAGE receive a Certificate of Completion in Gerontology from The Ohio State University.  SAGE is appropriate for professionals working in the field of aging who need additional discipline-specific training, individuals who provide services for older adults, and those wanting to pursue a career serving older adults who do not wish to or cannot return to graduate school; administrators, regulators, policy makers, direct service providers, program evaluators, and others caring for our aging population.

Senior Partners - The Senior Partners Program is a required four-year, longitudinal course which provides all OSU medical students with a foundation for providing competent, compassionate and cost-effective care for their older patients.

SUNSET (Series to Understand, Nurture, and Support End-Of-Life Transitions)  - Sunset is an internet-based series of “learning modules” developed to assist administrators and care providers in providing responsive, high quality and cost-effective end-of-life care for residents in assisted living and nursing care facilities.

Each module takes approximately one hour to complete (with the exception of Advanced Pain Management and Symptom Management, which each take two hours to complete).  Upon successful completion of each Sunset module, students electronically receive a continuing education certificate from The Ohio State University Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology.  The Sunset curriculum in end-of-life care has been developed to respond to the interdisciplinary approach to care and is appropriate for practitioners in hospice, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine, long-term care administration, public policy and management, pharmacy, and others.  Families of loved ones may find some of the modules to be helpful as they face their loss and move toward life without their loved one.
