Several opportunities are available for students interested in participating in a global health experience during the summer before Med 2.

We have two programs for pre-clinical students at affiliated universities in India:  the Amala Institute of Medical Sciences and the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (interested students should contact the OGHE for more information).

Another possibility for traveling abroad during summer break is to participate in a program that caters to international service learning.  We recommend Child Family Health International and Cross-Cultural Solutions, which are both non-profit, reputable organizations that place students abroad.

For pre-clinical students interested in pursuing research, the Colleges of Medicine and Public Health offer a summer research experience that can sometimes be accomplished overseas.  The program is led by Philip Binkley, MD, MPH from the Department of Internal Medicine.  Interested students should contact Patricia Hatton for additional information.

Please note that OSU COM students are not enrolled during the summer before Med 2 and can not receive academic credit or financial aid for international experiences (unless they have been approved to participate in a research program).
