Mark A. Merrick, PhD, AT, ATC, FNATA
Associate Professor of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences
Dr. Merrick is the Director of the Athletic Training Division in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He is a Fellow of the National Athletic Trainers Association (FNATA) and his research focuses on therapeutic modalities and injury pathophysiology. His work in these areas has earned him both the Outstanding Research Manuscript Award and the Outstanding Non-Research Manuscript Award from the Journal of Athletic Training.
Dr. Merrick has an extensive record of national leadership and service. He is the President of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) which oversees the nearly 400 accredited athletic training education programs. He served as an accreditation site visitor or site visit chair for a decade prior to being elected as a Commissioners in 2013. He was also a member of the writing group for the NATA Executive Committee for Education's Appropriate Entry-Level Degree Taskforce in 2013. He served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Athletic Training for more than a decade and continues as a member of the Journal's Editorial Board. He is a member of the editorial board the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation and a guest reviewer for 11 other journals. He is a member of the Evidence Based Practice Continuing Education Review Committee for the Board of Certification. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Ohio State University's Biomedical Sciences Institutional Review Board. Additionally, he formerly served on the NATA Foundation's Research Committee for 10 years in roles including Vice-Chair for Grants and Vice-Chair for Awards and as a contributing editor for Athletic Therapy Today.
