Dr. Mark Merrick, Associate Professor and Director of the Athletic Training Division has been awarded Fellowship in the National Athletic
Trainers’ Association (NATA). Dr. Merrick was selected by his peers for this honor based on career achievements and significant accomplishments in advancing the
profession. He joins his colleague Dr. Jimmy Onate who was selected as an NATA Fellow in 2012. Eligibility criteria
for NATA Fellowship include: a 10-year membership with NATA; 10
years board certification; educational contributions displayed at
undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate levels. Dr. Merrick will be recognized at the organization’s annual meeting and
symposium to be held this year in Las Vegas, June 24 – 27.
Dr. Merrick's research in therapeutic modalities and injury physiology has earned him the Journal of Athletic Training's outstanding manuscript award twice and their runner-up award an additional two times. He has a long standing history of service to the profession including service as a Section Editor for the Journal of Athletic Training, service to the NATA Research & Education Foundation as the Vice-Chair for Grants and Vice-Chair for awards; service as an editorial board member for several journals; service on sub-committees and work groups for the Board of Certification, NATA Executive Committee for Education, and the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association, service as the chair or commitee member of several Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association Committees, and service as a CAATE Accreditation Site-Visitor and Visit Chair.
