Head and Neck Inertial Properties

Accurate head and neck inertial property measurements such as weight, center of gravity, and moments of inertia are critical tools needed to improve helmets and helmet mounted systems.  These measurements provide valuable information to designers of helmet systems to enable better helmet comfort, fit, and function in the dynamic environment as well as better blast protection to prevent traumatic brain injury.

Objective:

  • Investigate the potential for using three-dimensional surface scanning or other imaging techniques to approximate the inertial properties of the human head and neck.
