1. How often am I on call? During your elective months, you will not be expected to take any call. In addition, residents no longer take overnight call on the weekdays, instead utilizing our new night float system. Anyone taking overnight call is ensured of leaving no later than 1 pm on their post-call day. For resident couples, we are more than willing to coordinate call schedules.
2. How many days off a month to I get? All interns and residents get a minimum of 4 days off a month while on service in accordance with the new guidelines. During your elective months, you may have as many as 8 weekend days off. In addition, work hours are tracked to ensure compliance with the 80-hour workweek.
3. What about the call rooms? Intern call rooms are all newly renovated private rooms with showers and computers in close proximity to patient care areas. Resident call rooms are located in the newly built Resident Call Suite. This suite includes a large lounge with televisions, computer room, classrooms and vending area. Individual call rooms located within the suite are private and individually equipped with a television, computer and shower.
4. Where do I eat when I’m on call? We provide free meals on call, including catered meals every night and pizza on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
