Students might find by cutting out some caffeine, alcohol and nicotine from their lives, better sleeping habits will ensue. Students who struggle to get enough sleep do not always realize that by avoiding some overindulgences, they can achieve the sleeping habits they have always dreamed of. Many sleep problems can be solved naturally and at a low cost. Students who are having trouble sleeping are advised to find a regular schedule, but with constant schedule changes that is nearly impossible, said Dr. Ulysses Magalang, medical director at the Sleep Disorders Center at Ohio State. Magalang suggests students decrease their alcohol intake because it causes arousals during the night. Also avoid napping close to bedtime and find a separate place to do work besides the bedroom, he said. Exercise is a good way to help get a better nights' rest, but students should exercise at least six hours before they plan on going to bed, he said.
