The Latin American Native American Medical Association
(LANAMA) serves to provide a welcoming environment
and support network for Latino/a and Native American
medical students at The Ohio State University.
We are committed to strengthening recruitment and retention of Latino/a and Native American students at the College of Medicine. Also, LANAMA is dedicated to educating students and faculty about health care issues and disparities prevalent in the Latino and Native American communities.
Will you have Latin@ patients in the field you go into? Would you like to find out more what it's like to work within Latin@ communities? Would you like to find out what opportunities are available to work within these communities? Are you planning on working or spending a summer abroad in a Latin American country?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then attend our next meeting where Dr. Cregg Ashcraft organizer of Clinica Latina, well known author and participant of the Cultural Competency modules available for OSUCOMPH students will be our guest speaker.
Dr. Ashcraft will be talking about what opportunities are available to practice within the Latin@ communities. He will also share his experiences growing up in Mexico, and what he has learned working within the Latin@ community. This is a lecture for all so bring your questions and appetite because food will be served.
When: October 28th, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Graves Hall Room 1167

1 in every 8 persons in the United States is of Latino origin. Hispanics are the largest minority in the United States. Hispanics and Native Americans are the two largest uninsured populations in the United states. Hispanics and Native Americans are the least represented population in the health care field. Up to 43% of the time Hispanics report being misunderstood or not able to communicate well with there physician. Native Americans are continuously confronted with the issue of a lack of access to health care.
