About Us
The Landacre Honor Society was founded in 1956 by Dr. Russell Hayes and Dr. Bernard Marks in honor of Dr. Francis Leroy Landacre, Professor and first Chairperson, Department of Anatomy. Dr. Landacre's original research was in neuroanatomy concerning the origin of cranial ganglia and neural crest cells of lower vertebrates. His exceptionally high standards in both academic achievement and research are the tenets of the Society's promotion and support of medical student research activities.
The Society advocates and promotes research for medical students at Ohio State. Its purpose is to advance interest in research at all levels and to acknowledge outstanding proficiency in research among its members. One of the Society’s goals is to help medical students pursue studies in any area of medicine, from evidence-based clinical research to traditional bench research. Acceptance into the Society is an acknowledgment of significant research achievement.
