Research:

The projects I have been involved with include strategies to increase the oligodendrocytes progenitor cell (OPC) population and promote their differentiation into oligodendrocytes in a spinal cord injury paradigm using pharmacological agents and growth factors.  We are also interested in studying and characterizing the pattern of appearance and fate of OPCs immediately following trauma and chronically over a period of time in an untreated in-vivo model of SCI.  Our current project aims at understanding the mechanisms of new oligodendrocyte formation after a CNS insult.  We have been especially interested in changes associated with growth factor levels in the damaged spinal cord tissue.  We plan on employing demyelination and in-vitro cell culture models to better understand the processes going on following injury and design future experiments for our in-vivo models
