Excellence in Clinical Training

Residents gain extensive and comprehensive clinical training in a host of settings on the medical campus of the OSU Medical Center and on other medical practice sites.

Clinical training takes place in the residency clinic, located in the William H. Havener Eye Institute, fifth floor of the OSU Medical Center Clinic Building, Henry G. Cramblett Hall. The Institute is a center within the nationally recognized Ohio State University Medical Center, a 900-bed tertiary care center with three operating rooms dedicated to ophthalmology.

Residents practice in fully-equipped examination lanes with an array of modern equipment including ultrasound, OCT, HRT, Yag, Argon, Excimer, diode and dye lasers, and ophthalmic photography including  high resolution digital fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green (ICG) angiography, OCT, ultrasound and electrophysiology laboratory. The clinic is surrounded by faculty offices, an arrangement that strengthens resident-faculty interaction.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is also nationally known for excellence and provides the setting for training in all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology. The Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Columbus and Dayton and community ophthalmologists also provide opportunities for patient management and surgical experience.
