Comments from Students
"He did a great job of teaching both medicine and aspects of practicing medicine that are not taught in the classroom. We saw a wide variety of cases which made the month a great learning opportunity for me."

"My preceptor tried to provide me with a variety of different patients, including nursing home patients, in order to give me a wide variety of experience. I had to stay on my toes as well because he would ask specific questions, which made me be prepared for each and every day at the office."

"Outstanding model for interpersonal and physician-patient interactions, with ability to relate to all types of patient expectations and deal with tricky patient complaints. Very good at demonstrating thorough physical exam with accurate description of findings. Also provided an excellent example of how to run/manage/organize an amazingly efficient and professional office practice."

Preceptorships, those in the pre-clinical (Med 1/2) and clinical (Med 3/4) phases of the curriculum, are programs that provide students opportunities to experience clinical practice in sites off the OSU Medical Center campus. Med 1/2 preceptorships focus on doctor-patient communications, history taking, and the physical exam. With a significant amount of didactic instruction in the basic sciences at OSU, students in the first two years are usually assigned to private practices and residency clinics within Franklin County. Sites for Med 3/4 programs, including the Ambulatory Care Clerkship, are in urban, rural, and surburban locations throughout Ohio.
