Clinical PharmacologyThe Division of Clinical Trials is a fully self-sufficient drug development program which provides a variety of services to the department, including teaching and conducting clinical research. The Division has been conducting clinical trials since 1977 and has investigated a wider range of medications. The research is sponsored by pharmaceutical corporations and is undertaken in a free-standing 39-bed facility staffed by qualified physicians.
Basic ScienceResidual funds from the Division of Clinical Trials have supported a variety of basic science research projects, many of them involving the effects of gallium nitrate on autoimmune diseases in animal models. This research has resulted in three use patents. Some studies are ongoing, including an investigation into the distribution and elimination of gallium in mice.
