Physiology and Cell Biology Graduate Program

Interested students may apply through the OSU Integrated Biomedical Research Program.

GRA Group

Programs of Study Within the Department
Faculty interests cover many areas of physiology from whole-organ systems to single-cell functions. Current research projects include studies in neurophysiology, ion transport in epithelial cells, temperature regulation, control of respiration, the cardiovascular system, energetics of muscle contraction, spinal cord injury, endocrinology and neuroendocrinology, autonomic control of gastrointestinal functions, biomechanics, and environmental physiology. Liaisons with clinical departments and their faculty are possible when research projects require clinical expertise.

The Graduate Students in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology meet monthly to discuss topics relevant to the educational experience in the Department.

Research Facilities
Faculty laboratories within the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology are equipped with modern instrumentation for the measurement of a variety of physiological phenomena. The Department has computer facilities available for the acquisition and analysis of generated data. The OSU College of Medicine and Public Health also has facilities and equipment for research in all areas of the basic medical sciences. A vivarium and animal surgical facilities are available and are supervised by veterinarians.

Students may participate in research programs conducted by Faculty in the Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, the Aging Research Center, the Neuroscience Research Center, the Reye's Syndrome Research Center, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute.
