The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers both integrated and specialty tracks for residents. Progression through the program leads to eligibility for the certifying exam of the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Graduates of the residency program are well trained in general and specialty physical medicine & rehabilitation as well as academic physiatry. Ample exposure to electrodiagnostic evaluations leads to eligibility for the certifying exam of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. The residency program in PM&R provides abundant clinical experience and research opportunities. Inpatient rehabilitative care involves brain injury, spinal cord injury, pediatrics, stroke, orthopedics, general neuromuscular diseases as well as cancer and organ transplantation. Ambulatory experiences include general and specialty physical medicine & electrodiagnostic medicine. Faculty within the department are actively involved in clinical and basic science research in the areas of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, bone & mineral metabolism as well as electrodiagnostic medicine. A specialty fellowship is offered in pediatric rehabilitation.
