About the Office
Established in September 2005 and housed in the School of Biomedical Science, the Office of Postdoctoral Programs was created to enhance the experience of postdoctoral scholars in the College of Medicine and Office of Health Sciences (COM/OHS). Postdoctoral scholars, or simply postdocs, is the collective term used for those in postdoctoral researcher and postdoctoral fellow appointments. Approximately 190 postdocs are in training across the basic science departments, research centers and institutes, and clinical departments of the COM/OHS. The scientific research training of postdocs is overseen by faculty advisors (mentors) and administered at the department level with supplemental services and assistance supplied by the Office of Postdoctoral Programs. Serving as a central resource for postdoctoral scholars, faculty advisors, and administrative staff, the office aims to enrich postdoctoral training and to assist postdocs in preparing for successful careers in the future. The initial goals of the office are as follows: - Define the postdoctoral position
- Facilitate career progression of postdoctoral scholars by offering career and professional development training opportunities
- Enhance the postdoctoral experience by facilitating scientific and social interaction among postdocs
- Help establish an identity for postdocs within the College of Medicine and Office of Health Sciences and offer opportunities for postdoc recognition
- Facilitate the recruitment of postdocs by faculty members
