The Office of Postdoctoral Programs recognizes that a postdoctoral position is by definition a temporary period of training that is intended to serve as a launching pad for your professional career. To make the most of this time, determine your career goals and then begin gaining the skills and completing the tasks needed to be a competitive candidate. Talk about your plans with your advisor so that you are on the same page. Certainly much of your time and effort will, and should be, spent in the laboratory. Remember also to cultivate the additional skills that you will need to succeed in your next career move--be intentional and consider stepping away from the bench on occasion to develop other needed skills. Through events, emails, one-on-one career discussions, and the information provided on this site, the Office of Postdoctoral Programs is one resource you can draw on to help you round out your postdoctoral training.

In this section, the office also provides basic information about postdoctoral policies and benefits, the campus, and Columbus. Your advisor, colleagues at Ohio State, departmental staff, and other university offices such as the Office of International Education and the OSU Research Foundation are additional sources of information and assistance.
