AAMC Postdoc and Mentor Compact
The Office of Postdoctoral Programs is pleased to announce that the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has created the "Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and Their Mentors." According to the AAMC, the document is "intended to initiate discussion at the local and national levels about the postdoctoral appointee-mentor relationship and the commitments necessary for a high quality postdoctoral training experience." Outlining the commitments of postdocs and mentors, the compact can benefit postdocs and mentors and proactively minimize conflict and misunderstandings, especially if postdocs and PIs review and discuss it at the beginning of a postdoc's appointment. For example, the compact specifies agreements about issues such as data ownership, ethical standards, and career goals and plans.
