From the very first month of arrival to the OSU Department of Psychiatry, there is a strong commitment to teaching, education, and preparation for professional examinations. Courses are offered to residents at all levels of training and throughout the year. Class time is incorporated into the residents' normal weekly schedule and is considered "protected" time. This means that classes and other educational events are a priority for residents to attend, while supervising physicians and other hospital personnel are responsible for clinical duties during this time. Course instructors are diverse, experienced, and dedicated supervising or adjunctive physicians, psychologists, professors, and other experienced clinicians. The instructors develop specific objectives for the courses, often co-facilitate classes, and are assigned certain durations of course exposure to assure continuity. These instructors significantly enhance resident learning and many have subspecialty expertise. Also, in accordance with the most recent national psychiatry program requirements, a continuum for assessing clinical interviewing competence is utilized.
Attendance at the following classes and conferences is mandatory and monitored.
