The Ohio State University College of Medicine will welcome back past students September 9-11, with the 58th Annual Medical Alumni Weekend event. Celebrated throughout all colleges at The Ohio State University, alumni will enjoy a weekend of connecting with fellow classmates while learning about the new facilities and programs.
The weekend will begin with a 50th reunion lunch for the Class of 1961, followed by tours of both the Clinical Skills Center and medical center expansion projects at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
The Clinical Skills Center expansion will house a new addition on the sixth-floor of the Prior Health Sciences Library. The 18,000 square foot expansion will include the following: four realistic virtual critical care bays with observation & control stations, a procedures lab three times the size of the current one, a surgery laboratory, five tech labs/debriefing rooms, a large ultrasound room and a 70-seat seminar room. The newly developed sixth-floor will provide students with a simulation center that affords the opportunity for true inter-professional health care team training.
Alumni will also tour the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute construction site, where they will hear from OSUMC senior leadership on the progress of the $1.1 billion building. Upon completion in 2014, the 20-story building will have just over one million square feet and house 276 cancer beds, 144 critical care beds, 14 operating rooms, along with countless other features.
Alumni Weekend will continue with an all-class reception and dinner, as well as an individual-class dessert and conversation.
On Saturday morning, before the OSU football game, alumni will take part in an underrepresented minority event as well as the OSU Medical Alumni Society Annual meeting. Before kick-off at noon, alumni will attend the Buckeye tailgate brunch at Meiling Hall and Hippocrates Plaza where they will have the opportunity to chat with OSU football great Archie Griffin.
Finally, the weekend will come to an end Sunday with the Medical Alumni Society Board of Governors Meeting.
The 58th Annual Medical Alumni Weekend will provide alumni with a chance to connect with fellow classmates and learn about the new, innovative facilities at OSU Medical Center. Learn more about alumni weekend
