Out of 102 applications, 23 institutions were selected for funding.  Eleven of the 23 were previously funded institutions; OSU was one of 12 new institutions selected for funding.

The centerpiece for the curricular aspects of the proposal is the College of Medicine Integrated Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (IBGP), which offers a translational area of research emphasis.  Virginia Sanders PhD is the Director of the IBGP and Phillip Binkley MD is the Faculty Liaison for the Translational Area of Research Emphasis.  The clinical mentoring and experiential aspects of the program will be guided by faculty in the Medical Scientist Program (MSP) and the College of Medicine of and will be tailored to the graduate student’s research focus.  Larry Schlesinger MD is the Director of the MSP. 

OSU HHMI Scholars will also benefit from OSU Clinical Center for Translational Science (CCTS) educational and research resources.  Exceptional OSU graduate students whose dissertation research is relevant to at least one of 6 scientific disciplines highlighted in the application including genetics, microbial biology, biomedical engineering, RNA biology, neuroscience or computational biology.

Core Leadership Team Members include:  Carlo Croce MD, Larry Schlesinger MD, Richard Hart PhD, Daniel R. Schoenberg PhD, John Oberdick PhD,  Jeff Parvin PhD, Virginia Sanders PhD, and Rebecca Jackson MD.

Exceptional OSU graduate students whose dissertation research is relevant to at least one of 6 scientific disciplines highlighted above will be eligible to apply for training in this program on a competitive basis.
