Pelotonia Medical Student Research Fellowship Program
The Pelotonia Medical Student Research Fellowship Program provides one-year research fellowships for up to two Ohio State University medical students each year who want to help cure cancer. Alpha Omega Alpha Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship
The Alpha Omega Alpha Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship provides an opportunity for students to conduct supported research for a continual period for clinical investigation, basic laboratory research, social science/health services research, leadership or professionalism. One candidate from each school with an active Alpha Omega Alpha chapter may be nominated.
Purpose: To foster the development of the next generation of medical researchers.
The Opportunity: Financial support for research to be conducted either during a continual period of a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks; 30 hours or more per week; or an average of 4 hours per week for 12 months over a period of 1 to 2 years. The research should focus on clinical investigation, basic laboratory research, epidemiology, social science/health services research, leadership, or professionalism. Funds from the fellowship are expected to be the major source of support for the student. Only one candidate from each school may be nominated. A student may only receive one fellowship during medical school. The Award: $6,000, of which $2,500 will be paid on announcement of the award, and $2,500 will be paid after receipt and approval of the final research report.
In addition, each student will be reimbursed a maximum of $1,000 to cover travel expenses related to the presentation of his/her Fellowship research results at a national meeting or conference that takes place within one year of distribution of the final check. Within 60 days following the travel, students will need to complete and submit the reimbursement form found on AΩA’s website along with a copy of the conference registration form or agenda and all related receipts.
Eligibility: First-, second-, and third-year medical students from schools with active AΩA Chapters, or Associations, are eligible. Students must be actively enrolled in medical school classes. Students taking a year off for research or to gain a PhD are not eligible. TL1 Mentored Clinical Research Training Program (CCTS-TL1)
Medical students are encouraged to apply for National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored TL1 Mentored Clinical Research Training Program (CCTS-TL1), offered through the OSU Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). The CCTS-TL1 program is part of a comprehensive program at OSU to advance research education and training in multidisciplinary clinical and translational investigation targeted at the improvement of human health. College of Medicine MDSR Scholarship
Medical student research scholarships support medical research to be performed at Ohio State under the mentorship of College of Medicine appointed faculty. These scholarships are awarded through an annual competitive application process. Students may pursue full-time research (40 hours per week) or part-time year-long research during their curriculum, as approved by their Academic Program Director. They may also apply to the Associate Dean for Medical Education or the Associate Dean for Student Life for a year-long leave of absence to pursue research for up to one year. The MDSR scholarships are funded through the Samuel J. Roessler Memorial Medical Scholarship Fund, the Banes & Bennett Memorial Scholarships and the Watts Mount Medical Research Scholarship. Please note the MDSR scholarships only fund hypothesis driven research projects with an OSU faculty research mentor, we do not fund systemic reviews of any kind.
