Peter J. Tontonoz, MD, PhD

Peter J. TontonozPeter Tontonoz is currently Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA and Assistant Investigator at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He holds an MD and PhD from Harvard Medical School with a focus in genetics and gene expression. His research in nuclear receptors and lipid metabolism holds great promise for controlling diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, currently among the leading threats to health in the world’s industrialized societies. He is the recipient of the 2000 Damon Runyon Scholar Award, the 1998 Epstein Award for Research in Pathology, University of California, San Diego, and the 1994 Smith Prize for Outstanding Research, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
