Is participation in Project Professionalism required?
No. All committees are made up of volunteers; only sign up if you are interested.
What if the activity I am interested in is not listed?
That can easily be remedied. Just send an e-mail to linda.stone@osumc.edu with your idea. Most of the committees sponsored by Project Professionalism came into being from student requests.
May I serve on more than one committee?
Of course. You can be on as many committees as you have the time for.
Can I join after the original Med 1 sign-up?
Yes. Just contact eileen.mehl@osumc.edu or tammy.carl@osumc.edu. They’ll see that your name is sent to the appropriate committee chair.
Are there opportunities for leadership?
When you sign up for a committee, you can check the box that states that you would be willing to serve as chair. All chairs also serve on the Council of Chairs, which meets as needed to review committee progress, assist with fund raising, and develop strategic plans.
What are some activities that have been initiated through Project Professionalism?
The Gold Humanism Honor Society had its beginnings in Project Professionalism and is now a stand-alone program, affiliated with the national Arnold P. Gold Foundation. The class oath, which is given during the hooding ceremony, was one of the first projects. Healer's Art began in Project Professionalism and is now offered as a mini-module through Patient-Centered Medicine in year 2. Project Professionalism was also supportive of the reinstatement of the Honor and Professionalism Council.
