How to Understand Your Credit Report and Credit Score

Good credit is essential to establishing a secure financial future.  Did you know that banks offer individuals different interest rates based solely on credit?  Poor credit will result in a higher cost of borrowing.  As such, it is important to understand how you can improve your credit.  Also, the credit report is the best tool to use to fight identity theft.  Richard Call of Consumer Credit Counseling Services will explain how credit reports and credit scores are developed; how to read them and understand their meanings; and what you can do to maintain, correct, or improve them.

Budgeting Made Simple

Taking control of your financial future starts with knowing how to budget your finances.  In this presentation, Student Financial Services breaks down budgeting into three important monthly figures that students should know at all times:  expenses, income, and discretionary income. You’ll also hear reasons why students do not create budgets and the negative impact those reasons have on their financial well-being.  Other discussions include:  (1) why students should create their own budgets rather than rely on the cost of attendance produced by the College of Medicine and (2) how students can use the interactive budget sheet listed below to develop their own budget plan.
