Careers in Medicine

Home > Services > Academic Advising/Career Planning > Careers in Medicine

Careers in Medicine is a Web site designed by the AAMC to assist medical students in making informed career decisions.  The decision-making process consists of four steps:

1.       Understanding Yourself

2.       Exploring Options

3.       Choosing a Specialty

4.       Getting into Residency

The AAMC designed these steps to follow the four years in medical school:

·         Med 1:  Do self-exploration

·         Med 2:  Learn as much as possible about available specialties

·         Med 3:  Begin to narrow choices

·         Med 4:  Commit to a residency choice

The Careers in Medicine Web site also offers an excellent timeline to help students prepare for the residency selection process.  If you would like access to it, please e-mail jane.trask@osumc.edu.  You will then be sent a token that will allow you to register and use the site at https://services.aamc.org/careersinmedicine.
