[Upbeat music] [Video clips of Meiling Hall, students being taught in a classroom, and of a student studying] Demicha Rankin, MD: We believe that bringing in students with a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences makes our medical school and the future of medicine stronger. Medical school is challenging and is difficult to get in. [Text on screen: DEMICHA RANKIN, MD ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR ADMISSIONS THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF MEDICINE] But here at Ohio State, we're very proud that we look beyond the traditional numbers of GPA and MCAT scores. Students are more than just their scores. And we definitely are very proud of the fact that we are serving as leaders when it comes to educating women and educating individuals that are underrepresented in medicine. [Video clips of students in classrooms] And we have not made any sacrifices in the high quality of our students for diversity. So we're very proud of that. [Video clips of medical students on match day] One way to measure a medical school is to see, where do their medical students place when it comes to residency? We're very proud of the fact that our medical students match into some very competitive specialties across the country, and this includes primary care, surgical specialties, and other specialties as well. [Video clips of students studying in libraries, labs, and in an operating room] Here at Ohio State, we believe that as you're learning in the textbooks about the pathophysiology, you're also learning in anatomy, where the various chambers are in the heart and the functions of the valves. And you're adding that with seeing patients in the ward or in the clinic. All of that helps to give our students more tangible learning opportunities. One of the best things about our medical school is the culture of support here. [Image of Demicha Rankin, MD, receiving her doctoral hood] And having been here and doing my own training as an undergraduate medical student here, I can truly affirm the fact that this environment is truly supportive. Yes, medical school is challenging, and we want you to be successful. [Aerial view of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center] We have a tradition of supporting our students with resources that only a big school like Ohio State can offer. [Video clip of an individual in a lab setting] Everything from scholarships, mentorship, research opportunities, a broad variety of interest groups, outreach and community engagement, as well as opportunities of education through mission work in other countries, and we're very proud of that. OSU welcomes out-of-state students as well, and we are one of the least expensive schools when you look at those that are ranked amongst the top 30 medical schools.
