The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center The Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center Willa Hsueh, MD: My name is Doctor Willa Hsueh, and I direct the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center. We link researchers throughout the campus, not just through the College of Medicine to study metabolic disease, which affects millions and millions of people throughout the world. Our vision is to prevent and cure diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease through innovative research. We are very interested in type 1 diabetes because unlike most centers where type 1 diabetes constitutes about 5% of the patient population at OSU Type 1 diabetes constitutes almost 20% of our patient population with diabetes. Our mission is to develop a state-of-the-art research program that links with our unique clinical programs in order to improve the health and well-being of our many patients. The naming of the center will be very important to expand these foundational programs to offer pilot grants that will help us get the critical preliminary data to develop applications that can be funded by national organizations and most importantly, bring key technology that's needed to perform the science to our investigators.  [Text on screen For more information, visit medicine.osu.edu]
