OSU Chief Fellow Welcome, 2024 Patrick Kramer, MD: Hi there, I'm Patrick Kramer, one of the Chief Fellows for the 2024-25 academic year. Tyler Haddad, MD: Hi, I'm Tyler Haddad, and I'm also a rising Chief Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year. Dr. Kramer: We're really excited to talk about our program. I think Tyler and I have both had fantastic experiences thus far and we hope this video gives you a quick insight into some of the things that make Ohio State stand out to us as a really top program. For me, I think I'm getting world class training in three huge areas: Clinically, we're a large tertiary referral center with a very robust transplant program and a number of subspecialty clinics. It's really good and exposure to both common and uncommon diseases. From an education perspective, we're blessed to have nationally renowned educators again, both at the bedside but also with didactic and hands on sessions. And finally, the research opportunities here are really endless. Utilizing Ohio State's large research campus and going across specialties as well makes it an awesome place to do research. Dr. Haddad: To give you an idea of how our program works to really support our short term and long-term goals, and I remember meeting with our program director, Avi Cooper, and he asked me, is there anything that you can think of that you would want in a fellowship that you don't already have? And I thought about it and I said it would be great to have a four week interstitial lung disease rotation. And his eyes lit up and he said what would that look like? What would the perfect version be? And so we took out a piece of paper and we started to shape it. We obviously decided to meet with our many interstitial lung disease experts and join them in clinic, but also decided to collaborate with our colleagues in rheumatology so that I could see what Scleroderma and myositis clinics would look like. We carved out a curriculum for radiology and even looked under the microscope with our neighboring pathologist. So it was an unbelievable experience for me, one that hadn't existed and one that was met with excitement. Dr. Kramer: Outside of the hospital, life in Columbus has been really great for my wife and I. We moved here a couple years ago and we've had a wonderful time going around town, socializing with people, utilizing the park systems, wonderful sporting music opportunities as well. And of course, Ohio State has a very robust sports team. But we found Ohio to really be a great exemplar of what the Midwest can offer from a living perspective. Dr. Haddad: And we'd be remiss if we didn't talk about our Co fellows. Our Co fellows are probably the best part of our entire program and we're very close friends inside and outside of work. When one of us needs help, six of us are coming running to the bedside to be there to support each other. And we just, we couldn't be more lucky. Dr. Kramer: And just to end with an anecdote, I was at a national conference earlier this year and I was meeting up with our program director, Doctor Avi Cooper, and we were going to walk to an educational kind of happy hour type session. And he was just walking away from again, a mid-career education award, which is a really big deal. And I was just happy to be there and hang out. And as we're walking, he's referring me. He's like, oh, like, there's this really great opportunity. Like, here's AQR code, you should scan. And I'm like, God, jeez, my phone just died. He stops what he's doing, opens up his briefcase, hands me a portable charger, and without a hesitation, says, this is what I'm here for. I'm your PD. And I think that really is true throughout the whole experience We have a leadership team that wants us to succeed, wants to hear what we need and follows through on it. And so again, I feel extraordinarily lucky to have trained here and really hoping that you can join us. Dr. Haddad: Couldn't agree more.
