Colleen Waickman, MD: Hi, my name is Colleen. I'm a first-year resident here at the Ohio State Psychiatry Residency. I grew up in Akron, Ohio, and I went to medical school here at Ohio State, where I decided to stay. [Text on screen Colleen Waickman, MD PGY1 - Psychiatry] Bryce Toburen, MD: And I'm Bryce Toburen, I'm a first-year year as well within the residency here for psychiatry, and I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Went to a medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and I'm excited to be here at Ohio State. So, we just want to take a few moments to kind of just talk to you about the reasons that we came here. [Text on screen Bryce Toburen, MD PGY1 - Psychiatry] So, Colleen, you wanna start us off? Colleen Waickman, MD: Yeah, I was excited to find out that I wanted to be a psychiatrist on my third-year psychiatry rotation on the Psychiatry Consult Service. And I just loved the medical and psychiatric complexity that we got to explore on the Psych Consult Service. There's amazing teaching on the service, and the mentors that I got to meet through that rotation are amazing. So that got me really interested in psychiatry, and I also found that I was very interested in child and adolescent psychiatry, and have found amazing mentors here at Ohio State in child and adolescent psychiatry as well. I have been so impressed by the investment that our attendings have in our education and our professional development. And I felt so welcomed here by not only the attendings, but also the residents. We have amazing out here. >> Bryce Toburen, MD: Yeah, so kinda just going off of that, I've really enjoyed our intern class. I couldn't have asked for anything better than my colleagues. But kind of just echoing what Colleen was saying, just the amount of support that the administration and all the attendings that you work with give you on a daily basis is just phenomenal. For example, the second-year resident that I'm working with was specifically put on a rotation with me because she came to the administration, said that she has an interest in education. And so that just shows that they're willing to put individualized learning plans in action to make sure that you get out of the residency exactly what you want to get out of it, and also the collegiality. The resident room is truly a special place. When I saw the atmosphere that they have in there, it really kind of sold me and really showed me that there really is a good work-life balance, and everyone got along together incredibly well. And I'm interested in working with young adults, so college-age students. So, being at a large undergrad university like Ohio State really gives me the ability to have the opportunities to explore that in the outpatient realm in my third year. So, there are all sorts of opportunities just waiting for you at the Ohio State University. So we look forward to meeting you soon. [Image on screen The Ohio State logo]
